Surveillance begins to prevent AI related harassment

Like the developed world, the government of Bangladesh sees artificial intelligence (AI) as the biggest risk of the future. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the government has taken measures to bring AI technology under surveillance to stop propaganda and harassment using AI.

While speaking at Ganabhaban on Thursday (May 23) with the leaders of 14 in the evening, the head of government announced this initiative citing criticism and false slander on Facebook.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that everyone in digital Bangladesh now has a mobile phone. Since the launch of 4G, everyone is using social media in their own way. The biggest problem in the future with false slander there will be the use of artificial intelligence to denigrate people. We have taken steps to monitor it. Not only our country but internationally all developed countries are worried about this. Now thinking how to deal with it and protect people from it. Naturally every country is looking for ways to escape from here.

Meanwhile, last month (April), the ICT Division released the draft National AI (Artificial Intelligence) Policy 2024. Meetings were also held with officials of various government agencies/departments, IT sector entrepreneurs, representatives of various UN agencies and university teachers at the BTRC auditorium. At the same time, State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that the Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy will be formulated very soon.

In the meeting held on April 4, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque said that the way artificial intelligence is progressing, there is no way without making a law in this regard. However, in the first stage, there should be enough flexibility in this law. The only thing that needs to be controlled is to be a little tougher.

He argues that there must be a synergy between AI law and policy. Because there is no use in making laws outside of policy. It is pointless to make policy outside the law.

While speaking as the President, the Minister of State for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that AI is very necessary to deal with the risks and exploit the potential of artificial intelligence. An example of the risk of AI is also given in the event.

Finally, on the occasion of 'World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2024' celebration at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on May 17, the State Minister introduced his digital twin at a function of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology as the chief guest and said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will change the way of life of people. As easy as it will be, it is a great danger to civilization. The government is going to make laws to deal with this challenge of technology, especially the adverse effects of AI.

On the other hand, a memorandum of understanding was signed between FBCCI Innovation and Research Center and AI Certs in a meeting titled 'Artificial Intelligence (AI): Prospects and Challenges from Bangladesh Perspective' at FBCCI Innovation and Research Center Building on February 5. AI Certs is a US registered certified organization founded to empower the future with artificial intelligence and block chain knowledge.
